lambretta fuel tank CAD design
lambretta fuel tank welding

Production Process and Technology

As with all production items the first thing you need is a design. We use AutoCAD
design software. Which gives us a computerized template of the product. This
computerized image can also be translated by other machines.

From this we can have the item laser cut if it made from Stainless plate;
the advantage of this is all pieces are the same, which means we can supply
identical items knowing each one will fit correctly. There is also no distortion
due to heat, as the laser cutter injects liquid nitrogen onto the cutting area,
this stop the plate from getting hot and bending. (Image across shows cutting
laser)

Welding

All the fuel tanks we produce are purge welded.
Once the tank is fabricated it is filled with inert gas, this gas is fed into
the tanks at a constant rate during the welding process. During the welding,
the welder introduces enough heat to penetrate through the plate, as soon as
the molten metal comes into contact with the inert gas inside the tank it forms
a bead of weld on the inside of the tank as well as the outside, make the tank
very strong. This is a very time consuming and skillful form of welding because
if the welder goes to slow there is a possibility that the weld will collapse
ruining the tank, and if the welder goes to quickly the weld may not penetrate
into the tank correctly.

Our tanks are welded by our own highly experience welders
with many years of this type of welding and are quality checked and pressure
tested prior to dispatch. We guarantee all our tanks for 12 months. We are the
only company to guarantee the quality of its welding to this standard.
